You can own a piece of electric vehicle history from one of the saddest stories in the industry to date. The British electric van maker Arrival, once valued in the billions, had plans to turn UPS’ fleet of iconic brown vans into electric vehicles. However, within a couple of years, Arrival’s warehouse became empty and its electric vehicles and remaining parts were sold off. Now, one of the first Arrival prototypes sold at auction after the company’s downfall has found its way to eBay. The seller, who worked for Arrival before its closure earlier this year, describes the Arrival pre-production van as the only known fully operational Arrival Gamma Van. The van, purchased in June, has sliding electric doors, a touchscreen dashboard interface, intact shelving, and is suggested for use as a “campervan.” Arrival aimed to revolutionize delivery vehicles like Tesla did for automobiles, but eventually closed down after financial troubles. Arrival’s attempt to make delivery vehicles more energy efficient was noble but ultimately unsuccessful, as other companies like Rivian and Ford continue to innovate in the electric vehicle market.
