One of life’s great universal annoyances is the discrepancy in volume between TV explosions and soundtracks, which are always deafeningly loud, while dialogue is as quiet as a church mouse. This issue is especially prevalent in modern action movies and TV shows that prioritize shaking our walls over clear dialogue. Despite our best efforts to adjust settings, soundbar placement, and turn on subtitles, the problem persists. DTS is aiming to finally solve this problem with the introduction of their DTS Clear Dialogue feature, an AI-powered solution designed to enhance the clarity of spoken dialogue on TVs. By identifying and boosting dialogue in audio streams, DTS’s AI algorithm aims to eliminate this audio imbalance. This innovative toolset will eventually be incorporated by TV manufacturers, with DTS’s technology typically being adopted by major players in the industry such as Sony, Hisense, Philips, LG, and Vizio. While partnerships with content providers, including Disney, have already been established to bring theater-grade audio to home releases, the company’s recent focus on enhancing the sound of MCU movies demonstrates the potential benefits of incorporating this AI technology in televison.
