How to use a VPN on Roku

The Roku smart TV platform offers a convenient way to access all your favorite streaming content, whether it’s built into your TV or added to older televisions with affordable dongles or set-top boxes. However, a common frustration for users of smart TVs and streaming services is the geo-restrictions that prevent access to certain shows and movies. While Roku systems do not have native VPN support like competitors such as Fire TV and Apple TV, there is still a way to use a VPN to access a wider range of programming on Roku through a workaround. By changing your IP address, a VPN allows you to appear as though you are watching from a different location, unlocking access to a whole new set of content. The added benefits of VPNs include enhanced privacy and security with military-grade encryption. To use a VPN on Roku, one workaround is to set up a VPN on your home router, protecting the entire network of connected devices. Alternatively, you can connect a VPN to your Roku using AirPlay or screencast from a smartphone or laptop, making it easier to access geo-blocked content. The simplicity of this method allows for seamless streaming and casting of content from your device to your smart TV, providing a convenient solution to geo-restrictions on the Roku platform.
