Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, has recalled Ram 1500 pickup trucks from 2019 and 2021-2024 worldwide, affecting approximately 1.46 million vehicles, with the majority in the US, due to a software issue in the anti-lock brake system that could disable the electronic stability control system and increase the risk of a crash, as reported by Reuters. Owners may notice various warning lights upon starting the truck if the problem arises, but there have been no injuries or crashes linked to the bug so far. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will be sending out notices to owners in early October, instructing them to bring their trucks to a dealership for a software update to address the issue. The recall does not affect foundational braking and the NHTSA notes that the vehicles currently do not meet federal safety standards for electronic stability control systems.
