AI enthusiasts who love the Raspberry Pi lineup of products can now celebrate as the company has unveiled its new Raspberry Pi AI Camera. This innovative product is the outcome of Raspberry Pi’s collaboration with Sony Semiconductor Solutions (SSS) which began in 2023 and is compatible with all of Raspberry Pi’s single-board computers. The AI Camera, boasting around 12.3-megapixels, is specifically designed for vision-based AI projects and operates on SSS’ IMX500 image sensor. By utilizing the integrated RP2040 microcontroller to manage the neural network firmware, the camera is able to conduct onboard AI image processing, thus allowing the Raspberry Pi to focus on other tasks. This offers users the opportunity to incorporate AI into their Raspberry Pi projects without being restricted to the Raspberry Pi AI Kit. Although the AI Camera does not replace Raspberry Pi’s Camera Module 3, which is still available for purchase, those interested in the new AI Camera can acquire it from Raspberry Pi’s authorized resellers for $70.
