Samsung has confirmed that an update to its SmartThings app has caused major issues for older Samsung Galaxy smartphones, as reported by 9to5Google. The update, which was rolled out over the past few days, resulted in bricked devices from the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 series, as well as some Galaxy M51 and A90 models. Users reported that their devices got stuck in a bootloop and did not fully turn back on after downloading the update. Impacted devices can perform a factory reset to regain functionality, but any data not backed up will be lost. Samsung has acknowledged the issue and suspended the update, offering support to affected customers. The incident highlights the potential software support challenges for older models like the Galaxy S10 and S10+, which are five years old and may no longer receive regular updates from manufacturers. This story has been updated with confirmation and a more detailed description of the issue from Samsung.
