In the tail-end of the last century, a computer bug known as the Y2K bug was believed to bring about a global robot apocalypse as the year 1999 turned into 2000. However, nothing happened… or did it? This premise is explored in the horror comedy film “Y2K,” directed by Kyle Mooney of SNL fame, envisioning a New Year’s Eve where computers truly turn on humanity. The movie, reminiscent of a 1990s teen party comedy crossed with apocalyptic horror, features a cast of unknown teenagers facing off against VCRs, old computers, and murderous Tamagotchis, with a cameo by Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit. With adults played by Tim Heidecker and Alicia Silverstone, “Y2K” hits theaters on December 6.
