Nineteen members of Congress are pushing Mark Zuckerberg to explain why Meta has allowed ads for cocaine, ecstasy, and other drugs to be shown on Facebook and Instagram. The lawmakers reference a report from the Tech Transparency Project (TTP) that found 450 Instagram and Facebook ads selling various drugs, including images of prescription drug bottles and cocaine. The letter to Zuckerberg challenges Meta’s disregard for social responsibility and failure to enforce its own community guidelines. It requests information on Meta’s policies for combating drug-related ads and gives a deadline of September 6 for a response.
