Fortnite returns to iOS in the EU as the Epic Games Store debuts on mobile

It’s a big day for Epic Games. The company has rolled out the latest season of Fortnite and achieved a long-held ambition by bringing the Epic Games Store to mobile devices. The app marketplace is now available on iOS in the European Union and on Android worldwide, meaning Fortnite is once again available on iOS in the EU without relying on cloud gaming services. Epic’s legal battles with Apple and Google stemming from bypassing in-app purchase rules have led to this moment, with the EU’s Digital Markets Act enabling Fortnite’s return to iOS. The Epic Games Store is also bringing Fall Guys to mobile, with plans to work with other developers to expand its offerings. Epic is making its games available on third-party mobile storefronts, starting with AltStore PAL, while also planning to do so on other app marketplaces. Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney expressed gratitude to the European Commission for opening up competition in the mobile ecosystem, allowing developers and consumers to benefit from choice. The fight is not over, but progress has been made. Personally, I’m excited to play Fortnite again and hope to see new content like the “Hot To Go!” dance emote added to the game.
