Meta has shared an update on the success of its Llama large language models, revealing that they have nearly approached 350 million downloads thus far, a significant increase from last year. With 20 million downloads occurring in the last month alone following the release of Llama 3.1, Meta claims its latest LLM can now compete with industry giants like OpenAI and Anthropic. The monthly usage of Llama has grown exponentially for Meta’s cloud service providers, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and several others. By making Llama available through partnerships with various tech companies, Meta believes in the power of open source AI to foster innovation and diversity within the developer community. Mark Zuckerberg has championed open source AI as the future, emphasizing Meta’s commitment to establishing it as an industry standard. Examples of companies leveraging Llama for various purposes, such as AT&T for customer searches and DoorDash for simplifying tasks, highlight the versatility and impact of these models. From Niantic to Zoom, Llama is being utilized across industries for a wide range of applications, showcasing the potential for future advancements and collaborations in AI technology.
