Yesterday, the US government announced the first-ever interagency sea level rise website, a result of the work of the US Interagency Task Force on Sea Level Change. The website, called US Sea Level Change, provides easily accessible data on rising sea levels. Users can check how much sea levels have risen in a specific region and view predictions for future rises. The data is federally supported and offers explanations and science education to help communities prepare for coastal challenges. Testing the sea level explorer with Pennsylvania as the target state revealed a nine-inch increase in sea level since 1970, with a projected 11-inch rise from 2020 to 2050. The site, a project of the Interagency Task Force on Sea Level Change, includes representatives from various agencies such as the Department of Defense, EPA, NOAA, and NASA. In addition to specific sea level numbers, the site features information for all ages on the causes of climate change.
