The Internet Archive has been targeted by a series of DDoS attacks this week, causing the service to go offline. A popup appeared on the site during the outage, although it has since disappeared and the site remains inaccessible. Founder Brewster Kahle has been providing updates on the attacks, stating that the team is working to restore the site. The attacks have been claimed by the DDoS organization Blackmeta, who stated that the platform “belongs to the USA.” The Internet Archive, a non-profit organization offering free access to a wide range of software and media, is also home to the Wayback Machine web archive. This is not the first time the Internet Archive has faced DDoS attacks, adding to a series of recent challenges including a legal battle over ebook copyrights and a recent appeal loss in the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
