Not only Taylor Swift fans and the US government are unhappy about Ticketmaster. The UK government is investigating the company’s dynamic pricing model after Oasis fans faced sudden price increases for tickets to the band’s reunion tour. Fans who managed to purchase tickets found prices inflated, with some tickets being resold for exorbitant amounts. The UK’s culture secretary expressed concern over fans being excluded due to vastly inflated prices and vowed to address issues of transparency and dynamic pricing. Before the Labour Party’s victory, leader Sir Keir Starmer pledged to cap resale ticket prices for events, and the government announced plans to consult on the secondary-ticket market, including dynamic pricing. While Ticketmaster claims event organizers set prices, artists like Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and The Cure have avoided dynamic pricing, while others like Bruce Springsteen have embraced it. Ticketmaster also faces legal challenges in the US for alleged antitrust violations.
