Monday was a chaotic day for Verizon customers and PS5 gamers. Verizon mobile users experienced widespread outages across the US, with Downdetector reporting hundreds of thousands of complaints starting at 9:30AM ET and peaking at 105,000 at 11:20AM. The issues mainly affected the East Coast and Midwest, with users unable to send texts or use cellular services. Meanwhile, the PlayStation Network suffered serious problems later in the day, causing disruptions to online games globally and preventing users from signing in on various consoles. Sony worked to restore services in the early hours of the next day. In other news, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration fined Cruise, GM’s self-driving division, $1.5 million for omitting key details from reports about an autonomous vehicle accident. Cruise executives failed to disclose crucial information about the incident and must now submit corrective action plans to the NHTSA. Additionally, Epic Games is taking legal action against Samsung and Google, claiming that Samsung’s Auto Blocker feature is hindering users from installing the Epic Games Store on Samsung devices. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney alleges collusion between Google and Samsung, although concrete evidence is lacking.
