YouTube is developing new tools to protect artists and creators from the unauthorized use of their likenesses, with upcoming face-detection tech and synthetic-singing identification technology in the works. The face-detection tech will allow individuals to detect and manage content using AI-generated depictions of their faces, while the synthetic-singing identification tech will be integrated with Content ID, YouTube’s automated IP protection system. These tools aim to help creators, actors, musicians, and athletes identify and take action against videos featuring deepfake versions of their likenesses. YouTube’s vice president of creator products, Amjad Hanif, emphasized the importance of AI enhancing human creativity rather than replacing it, stating the company’s commitment to working with partners to ensure advancements amplify their voices while addressing concerns and achieving common goals. No specific release date has been provided for the face detection tools yet.
